Founded in 1991, the Sleep Disorders Dental Society holds as its mission and objectives the following:

MISSION

To improve the treatment of patients with sleep disorders through the involvement of dental practitioners and the utilization of oral appliances as an integral part of overall therapy.

To facilitate a coordinated synergistic approach with the medical community to research, treatment, education and professional development.

OBJECTIVES

To further the study and application of oral appliances in the treatment of sleep disorders;
To network interested researchers and clinicians;
To manage and facilitate an effective relationship with the medical community as an integral part of the sleep disorders detection,treatment and research team;
To facilitate the exchange of new information;
To educate and certify practitioner dentists;
To establish and maintain appropriate dental treatment protocol;
To facilitate comprehensive third party reimbursement for costs incurred in state of the art and innovative treatment of sleep disorders;
To promote and maintain a positive public and govenunent awareness of sleep disorders and the role of the dentist; and
To enhance the quality of life of those suffering from sleep disorders through the involvement of dental practitioners and the use of oral appliances.
