It's time for bed. Brother Benny and sister Bibi, both bunnies, put away their toys, toss their clothes in the hamper, brush their teeth, and take a bath. But brother Bunbun and his pet bird, Paco, race their cars, build block towers, and bang cymbals and drums. A sudden strange noise frightens Bunbun, sending him racing upstairs, where he rapidly gets ready for bed. Once he and Paco slide between the sheets, Benny and Bibi send him to sleep with hugs and kisses. Parents will need to supplement the text with questions and discussion. What scared Bunbun? Was it a branch brushing a window, a raccoon ambling across the roof, or a neighbor dragging out his trashcans? Did Bunbun know he was being naughty? Did he expect to be punished? Should he have been punished? And, most important, where are Mom and Dad at bedtime? The colored-pencil drawings in bold red, green, purple, gold, teal, and orange, will appeal to young children. All the bunnies' noses and clothing are color-coordinated, helping toddlers know who's who. The simple text, in large type, makes this book suitable for beginning readers. But parents will have to help their child create the missing pages to make this book a true aid to instilling good bedtime habits. |
