THE COMPLETE GUIDE TO NATURAL SLEEP
Dian Dincin Buchman

"While this book leans strongly on the official self-help procedures offered by careful sleep scientists," the author asserts in her introduction, "it also presents a wide range of other safe natural remedies and sleep strategies culled from cutting edge nutritional information and the best of ancient and modern plant-based medicine and water therapies that all promote good sleep."

Buchman offers a wide range of alternative treatments for sleep disorders and illnesses or conditions that may disrupt sleep such as heartburn, asthma, pregnancy, and menopause. Whether honey, salt rubs, or flower infusions can improve sleep is unknown. Few, if any, of these remedies have been subjected to scientific scrutiny. Reports of their efficacy are virtually all anecdotal. Moreover, what is "natural" is not always safe.

Given the lack of objective evidence of benefits and safety, this is not a book sleep specialists are likely to recommend to patients.
