This is a well written and lively self-help guide for troubled sleepers.

The book leads the reader on a reliable path of self-discovery, with chapters entitled: why you need to stop sleep deprivation; sleep cycles; what's keeping you up at night?; a time to sleep; ten tips for a good night; behavioral treatments for insomnia; using sleeping pills wisely; when your sleep rhythms are disrupted; good nights for your baby, child, or teen; sleep disorders; and consulting with a sleep specialist.

Zammit directs the sleep disorders center at the St. Luke's Roosevelt Hospital Center and Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York. Zanca is a writer. Numerous case examples make it easy for readers to appreciate the nature of the problems discussed. The liberal use of bulleted lists, boxes, and charts, also make the text exceptionally reader-friendly and easy to scan.

The authors credit their sources throughout the book, although they do not provide references for further reading. The book includes a directory of sleep centers and an index.
