This book provides 21 lullabies from 17 countries. The editor, who is the author of more than 100 children's books, presents each song in its native language as well as in an English translation. Not surprisingly, the words in most are quite similar, with mothers and fathers promising to watch over and protect their sleeping infants. It is easy to imagine babies everywhere soothed by these soft words.

Artists from different countries created the color illustrations. Many depict native costumes and symbols. It would have been nice to see some musical notation, but parents who wish to try these lullabies probably can improvise well enough to get their message across.
