Follow-Up:

SP happens during REM and during REM the body looses much of it's ability to thermoregulate (control it's own temperature). From memory during REM you generally drop heat (i suppose depending on climate and temp in sleeping area??). So maybe during SP this process is accelerated- hence the unusual amount of heat your wife complains of? Just a guess really. Anybody else got any idea?
