Dear Miranda :-) I think he needs to get help right away and I mean this very sincerely. What your boyfriend has experienced is a form of Somnambulism(or sleepwalking). It is similar to night terrors in that it occurs during the non-dreaming stage of sleep, usually within an hour or two of going to bed. The sleepwalker feels an intense need to take action and may appear alert, purposeful, or anxious as he moves about. What are the causes? A more psychological or substance-abuse related set of causes seem to exist for adults. Adults should begin seeking treatment for these other causes in order to get rid of the symptoms. Treatments for adult sleepwalkers often include psychological treatment by seeking out a mental health professional as well as relaxation techniques, and sometimes the condition requires anti-depressants to regulate the behavior. Miranda, he should not wait to get treatment as the problem could escalate severely. Best Wishes and Good luck. ~ Kayla
