Follow-Up:

I suffer from BMD as well, have done for several years now - burning sensation on front of tongue, soft side of lips, both are red and swollen. A dermie told me it was stomatitis, glossitis and hilitis (duh! since stoma means mouth in greek, glossa means tongue and hili means lips. The -itis bit means 'inflammation of' so that's a fat lot of help!). I also have fibromyalgia but I refuse to take any meds for either of these because I saw what they did to my grandmother (and it wasn't pretty). I try to manage the BMD by working out what makes it worse- eg smoking (definitely). Doctor said keep off hot drinks and spicey foods as well as citrus fruit. I find hot drinks actually soothe the pain, and citrus fruit don't seem to make it worse. Haven't found anything that makes it better though. It comes and goes, never goes away completely, but sometimes gets really painful. Some people relate it to candida but I haven't been tested for that yet.Others talk in terms of food allergies and someone said bananas are aggravating. I find doctors aren't very sympathetic on this so it seems its one of those things they don't have a cure for. The only thing I have heard really works is burning the surface of the tongueby surgery. Makes sense, but I don't know if I'm ready for such drastic action - especially if it comes back again. I don't know how it all started. One doctor suggested vitamin B deficiency so I'm going to try taking supplements of that. I've been takng vitamin supplements for three months but haven't seen any improvement.Let me know if any one finds a working solution!
