Follow-Up: Valerian is a stress relieving root, which has been used since at least Roman times as a sedative and relaxant. It is a safs, nonaddictive alternative to modern drugs, which reduces nervous tension and anxiety and promotes restful sleep. Valarian also relieves muscle spasms, and lowers blood pressure, reduces mental activity, reduces neck tesion and other related problems. It is used worldwide, especially in Europe, where extensive research was done on it in Switzerland and Germany. Yes you can use it with prescription drugs, for it is not a drug, however it is a prescription alternative, so it should be taken with drugs. It is availible at most stores which carry vitamins (Kmart, Wal Mart, GNC), in a capsule form. *Source: Encyclopedia of Medicinal Plants Chevallier, Andrew 1996
