Ativan,Epival & Amitriptyline

Question: I am having a horrible time, but not nearly as bad as my mother is. For the last ten years my mom has been in and out of hospitals. She has been diagnosed with depression, has taken several types of medication and has endured ECT's. Her complaints are of tightness in her head and a pulling sensation. She complains of lack of concentration, a sense of not be balanced when she walks, lack of hunger. She has not been able to work for the last seven years as she says she's in constant pain. She has been through several doctors and been to various hospitals. She is a poor patient, as every six months or so she decides that she is "addicted" to the drugs and stops using them, only to go back on them a week later. My question is, is there someone else out there that is suffering from the same or know someone else that is. How do you cope? Is there any other drug that I can suggest to the doctor's. Currently she taakes 500mg of Epival, 75mg of Amitriptyline and up to 3mg of Ativan a day. It does absolutely nothing. I'm really at my wits end. I feel terrible for my mother, but it is getting increasingly harder not to get annoyed with her or lose patience and interest.
