Follow-Up: Yes, this sort of misdiagnosis happens more often than you'd think. Too many doctors don't know anything about narcolepsy, and they won't admit it. They will condemn someone to an institution, or worse, rather than admit that they're wrong. And I have *never* heard of a combination of narcolepsy and paranoid scitzophrenic, even tho depression and narcolepsy is common. Certain mental illness just don't do together, because of the brain chemistry involved. You need to see a doctor. A real doctor, that is. (I'm reminded of this cartoon: Person is in heaven, asks, "Where's God?" An angel whispers, "That's him over there." The person looks at this white bearded fellow with a stethscope around his neck. "That's God?!?!?" "Shush!" The angel whispers, "Not so loud, he thinks he's a doctor." Anyway, I'd contact my case worker, and hollar and rant and rave and scream. And there are some books out there that will help with the weight and the narcolepsy. If you'd like more specifics, give me an e-mail hollar. Good luck!
