Follow-Up: You very possibly have narcolepsy. Very vivid dreams are one of the markers. Get diagnosed. Depending on if you have a good doctor, or one of those creatures with an MD degree who regards his patients as cash cows, you may get help right away, or a royal run-around. In the meantime, here are a few ideas. Try melanonin, in the spray form. Nature's Plus has one that seems to work. (Some supplements aren't worth the time to throw them in the garbage can.) Second, try going to sleep to very mellow music. Something you find peacefull and relaxing and calming. Get a repeating music player and have it repeat, very low, all night if necessary. Second, try something called, among another things, controled imageing. One of the other symptoms of narcolepcy is laying awake for hours and hours. While you're laying awake (lying?) day dream about something calm and peaceful. I image cross country sking, see myself floating over clean crisp snow, then making camp, getting out the sleeping bag, and falling asleep to the odor of fresh air and snow, and then waking up and making breakfast, and then skieing on. Sooner or later I really fall asleep when I imagine myself making camp and getting into my sleeping bag. You can also try valerian root and kava kav, both herbs. And don't hesitate to try double or more the "recommended" dose on the bottle. But ease up gradually. I recommend Nature's Way. And Nature's Plus. These are more or less stop gap measures until you can get treated, and get sleeping pills. In theory, and many people have found this so, after some time on the sleeping pills, the dreams go away, and it's possible to control their reoccurances with controlled imageing, and herbs. Good luck and let us know how you do!
