Follow-Up: I have been taking St. John's Wort for about two months now and love it. Before, I was irritable, short-tempered and on the verge of tears much of the time. Now I am far more calm, collected and easy to get along with. I have a five-year-old grandson that exhibits much of the behavior that I had become used to in the last several years, and besides, he is ANGRY much of the time and has dramatic mood swings. He also tends toward hyperactivity but is on no medication at this time. I am certain that within a week after he begins kindergarten, the teachers and school officials are going to want him on Ritilin for the hyperactivity, but I do not want that. Does anyone know if any studies have been conducted into the safety and/or effectiveness of St. John's Wort on children? I would love to try it for a few weeks on my grandson, but will not seriously consider it until I can have some reliable assurance that it is at least safe. If any board-certified pediatricians read this, I would love to have their input.
