Follow-Up: I am not sure that I have a problem with bruxism but I suspect I do. What I do know is that my brother has a problem with bruxism. I have for years had a problem with my bite feeling funny, like it is too closed(what I mean by closed would be like a person without teeth would have a very closed bite), it was like I had to close my mouth more than I should have to in order that my teeth would come together. I had some jaw surgery that only made things worse and had to have this corrected. In that time I had some experience with TMJ mouth splints. What has seemed to help was when I thinned out my splint to 3mm thick. I then wore this day and night. My bite felt much more comfortable and because my bite was more comfortable, my interactions with people became less stressed and much improved. Allergy has apparently been weakly linked to bruxism and I do know that I had significant problems with allergies growing up. My theory is that teeth grinding causes a functional malocclusion with my teeth caused by my jaw having to close too far for my teeth to meet. I think this malocclusion is from me grinding my teeth down in childhood and throughout my life secondary to my allergies. My questions for others suffering from this problem are several. Did you have allergies--nasal congestion, asthma, watery eyes, dark spots under your eyes and especially mouth breathing. The other important question is do you have the same symptoms that I had and have when I do not wear my splint. I do not want to leave my email for general access but I will check this board periodically and if you will leave the answers to these questions along with your email, as well as any other comments, I will get back with you
