Follow-Up: I have both ADHD and narcolepsy. There is definitely a connection. The same stimulant medications are used to treat both disorders. My sleep specialist agrees with me that they are very closely related, if not two different manifestations of the same disorder. Some experts believe that ADHD symptoms are actually symptoms of sleep deprivation since narcoleptics don't get the deepest level of sleep at night. I think we have a problem which keeps us from easily slipping into certain brain wave patterns. Studies have shown that the "alert" brain waves we have trouble maintaining at work or in class during the day are actually almost indistinguishable from the brain waves signaling deep sleep which we have trouble achieving at night. Your message is an old one so I am not sure if you still check them, but if so, hope my experiences and observations help you with yours.
