Follow-Up: My situation is similar to Carol's in that I'm 48 and have had restless legs as long as I can remember too. I've never been able to sit still for very long without my legs "jumping." It's worse when I am tired in the evenings. Unlike others, it generally doesn't keep me awake, but sometimes it does. Usually my only relief is to go to bed. I've always been very athletically active and rarely sit down and do nothing. As I've described my condition to doctors, they've just shrugged -- until recently. In my latest checkup, my doctor suggested that perhaps it is ADHD. I have 2 children with ADD (which I don't think she knew at the time). In taking 10 mg of Ritalin, I was able to relax and enjoy an evening out with no jumpinees. I was amazed. I'm not sure, though, that this is the right solution because I haven't tried it very often. When I have, I'm not sure that I don't have a rebound reaction later when the Ritalin wears off. Perhaps caffeine and sugar elimination is better.
