Follow-Up: I might have the answer. After trying everything...soft splint, hard splint, a mouth guard with an alarm (I just pulled it out), hypnosis, meditation, relaxation tapes, and drugs for pain... I came across a web site from professor Moti Nissani. He bruxed for years and finally created a mouth guard that holds small bags that rupture when you grind. Inside is an eversive substance such as chili or salt. He found this solved his problem since his subconscious came to realize that if he bruxed he would have this awful experience of chili etc. in his mouth! You can find the details on his web site (just search under bruxism and taste aversion). After much looking around I found a dentist here in Vancouver BC who was willing to have one made for me. He did it under my dental plan. I believe the cost should be about $250 if you're not on a plan. The bags you have to make yourself with one of those food sealers you can buy for $30 at a big department store. This is tricky, but hey, if it will put an end to the pain and dental work it's probably worth it. I go in on Thursday Jan. 17/2002 to pick it up and have already made some of the little bags. I know how much many of you are suffering. This is a frustrating problem. The dentists and doctors can be cold and unwilling to offer help other than to suggest that one think positive thoughts and get counseling. Don't lose hope. If this works, I'll post another message. You're not alone, and you're not weak or crazy for having this problem. Good luck, Chris
